My purpose for going back to school to earn a Master’s degree in Business Administration is to further my career. There are many reasons to go back to school and pursue an MBA. Career advancement, job security, self-worth, and increase in salary are the main reasons that my decision was based on.

Career advancement is something that everybody wants, and an MBA will ensure that I achieve this goal. Many people have different definitions of what career advancement is, from receiving noticed because of hard work to receiving that executive office at corporate. An MBA will advance my career to becoming the next CIO or one of many other upper-level executive positions in my current company. It will also allow me to advance to the next level of my career within another company if I ever need to seek new employment.

Job security is a necessity because feeling secure in a position will drive someone to want to succeed and allow them to see that position as a life changing career and not just another job that will get him or her by. Also to become an effective leader a person needs to display a secure attitude before he or she will ever receive the confidence of others. Receiving my MBA will provide me with job security by giving me industry specific knowledge that will make me more valuable and effective in my current position as well as in other positions that my future may hold.

Self-worth is something that has always been important to me because without it I do not have a purpose. Unlike self-esteem, self-worth does not change therefore it can never be taken away. Everyone enjoys their accomplishments in life and how these accomplishments make them feel successful by boosting self-esteem. On the other hand, No one enjoys facing a failure and how that failure makes them feel unsuccessful by lowering their self-esteem. Earning an MBA will provide me with self- worth because it will be an accomplishment in my life that can never be taken from me.
