Since there are two subgroups in the company one way to increase the motivation with the Irish and the Welsh would be having them cross train with each other. That way the Welsh know what the Irish do and take into consideration of their hard work and vice versa. This way they can also help each other out if needed. This way we implement hypothesis 1 stated in the Group System Theory, Person who interact frequently with one another tend to like one another. The Slate Company is a big group but we know that between the Welsh they get along with each other, and the Irish between the Irish get along just fine. However if the Welsh and the Irish interact more often they will have more positive sentiments about each other.

Also as stated in the Group System theory article, hypothesis 2 if the frequency of the interaction between two or more persons increases, the degree of their liking for one another will increase and vice versa. The Welsh and the Irish will understand and appreciate each other because they will know what each went through to get the job done. They can work together into getting the slates done so they find a common goal and work towards getting the job done more efficient. This will be a building block for positive sentiments towards one another, which would replace the negative sentiments that each group feel.

After having the two groups cross train the company could set up group activities for both groups and therefore both get to know each other culture. For example the hypothesis 3 in the article Group System Theory states that people who feel sentiments of liking for one another will express those sentiments in activities over and above the activities of the external system, and those activities may further strengthen the sentiments of liking. A social activity will carry over when the two group members return to the internal system.
