Real Estate Experience Paper

The real estate industry is an ever changing market. It has been around for millions of years, either in the form of barter or the real estate we know today. This paper is to serve the purpose of informing the reader more on the emergence of this career between the years of 1883 and 1908 and the personal experience of a realtor entering the more current market.

3. At the start of the twentieth century, The United States was recovering from the worst depression yet. Many people left their homes in search for a better life. This was a huge motivating factor to rehabilitate the real estate industry. A group of prominent American urban real estate brokers, dealers in commercial property and developers of residential subdivisions, made an effort to organize their occupation into a “profession” on the national level. The men leading this group were primarily from rapidly growing cities in the West and Midwest. Some men include Alexander S. Taylor of the Cleveland Real Estate Board and Edward S. Judd of the Chicago Real Estate Board. These men aimed to refashion real estate into a vital, ethical, and progressive calling. Also, the well established men were trying to profit on the spur the development of their own regions.

This is where an organizational revolution began on the municipal level. 4 In the 1870s and 1880s, these men established dozens of local real estate boards, creating the rules and practices that governed the local real estate markets. After there was some organizational structure locally, the men then acquired national aspirations. In 1908, the National Association of Real Estate Exchanges was established.
