Course Description:

This course emphasizes financial decision-making and the development of financial strategies through the examination of case studies. Financial strategy focuses on three major financial management components or functions: operations (financial analysis and planning), financing (mix and costs of debt and equity capital), and investments (capital budgeting and valuation analyses). Financial planning takes into consideration the existing and expected conditions in financial (money and capital) markets. Issues involving the mix and costs of debt and equity capital are explored. Capital investment decisions, as well as valuation decisions involving acquisitions and corporate restructurings (e.g., leveraged buyouts) also are covered. Cases involve businesses operating both domestically and internationally.

Course Objectives:

The primary objective is to develop an understanding and working knowledge of how finance practices, techniques, strategies, and theories are currently applied in both domestic and international business case settings.
