Gonorrhea

Patient Description Tiffany is a 28-year-old Caucasian female with no past medical history. She is a middle school gym teacher as well as a varsity cheering coach and loves what she does. She is unmarried, does not have any children and lives alone. Currently she is dating a man that lives a few towns away from hers. She is a college graduate from the University of Maine at Orono and states that her preferred method of learning is

Tiffany visits her doctor because she has been experiencing some pelvic pain, her periods have become irregular and she is having a lot of excess vaginal discharge.

She currently takes oral contraceptives. She is sexually active and does not use condoms. Her pap test shows cervical inflammation and cultures taken reveal she is positive for gonorrhea. Blood test reveals that she is not pregnant and her white blood count is elevated.

Preferred method of learning She prefers to learn one on one, rather then in a group setting and mentioned visuals helped her as well.

Gonorrhea, also known as “clap,” is a highly contagious, sexually transmitted disease, caused by the bacteria Neisseria gonorrhoeae. It is one of the most common STDs in the United States. This bacterial infection causes inflammation of mucous membranes of the genital and urinary systems in both males and females (CDC, 2010).
