1.0 Introduction

1.1Background

Hong Kong is a very unique country. Before it was handled back to China in 1997, Hong Kong was ruled by British colony., Hong Kong is a part of China as Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) when Hong Kong handover in 1997.According to Hong Kong’s Basic Law, as agreed between British and China for the next fifty since 1997, Hong Kong will retain its own currency which is Hong Kong Dollar (HKD), parliamentary system, and legal system. This shows that Hong Kong is actually a separated country with China. In Hong Kong, there are Chinese medicine shops, dim sum restaurants, their “yamcha” habit which are the Chinese cultural values. However, Hong Kong’s school system and free market economy were influenced by British as they are using the double-decker buses, afternoon tea, English pubs and orderly queues. It is the mixture of west and east culture. The official languages in Hong Kong are Chinese and English. Cantonese is the most common Chinese dialect that usually spoken by Hong Kong’s people. In Cantonese the dialect, the city’s name, Hong Kong means Fragrant Harbor. Therefore, Hong Kong is a bustling and multi-cultural values country.

1.2Purpose

The purpose of this report is to understand the cultural aspect and social behavior when doing business in Hong Kong.
