The purpose of this study is to find a solution to the problem of global warming. This study will

also examine the possible usage of alternative energy sources as well as the cost effectiveness of utilizing

alternative ways to produce energy. In recent years due to decreasing fossil fuels and other environmental

issues, alternative energy sources are being considered to decrease the dependence on the traditional ways

of producing energy. The goal of this paper is to make the readers aware of alternative energy sources. It

is important to realize that resources are limited and we cannot afford to delay the planning for our future

possibly without fossil fuels.

Fossil fuels such as oil, coal, and natural gas are limited resources. It is quite challenging to find

and extract these fossil fuels from the ground. It is expected that there will be no change in this trend as

more of these resources are getting utilized at an increasingly alarming rate. Besides the limited amount

of fossil fuels we have available, there is another potentially more serious cost associated with utilizing

these types of fuels. They are thought to contribute to environmental problems like global warming and

destroying the ozone layer that will be paid for by future generations. The concentration of CO2 has

increased by over 30% since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution due to fossil fuel combustion and

deforestation (Houghton 1343). There is growing evidence that global warming poses a serious threat to

our planet. The weather is changing and the glaciers are melting at a much higher rate than ever. So what

are the alternatives to these traditional sources of energy? This article will cover a few of the alternative

energy sources that are being publicized as practical solutions both commercially and for the individual

homeowner....
