Skills in Consecutive Interpreting

Abstract:

It is frequently asked what capabilities are needed to be a good interpreter. Language communication is exclusive to human beings. Interpretation is just the conversion and expression of two languages lively. Language competence determines the quality of one’s interpretation, which means excellent master of language leads to an excellent interpretation and weak capability in language may well result in dissatisfactory one. Apart from language competence, it also takes a wide scope of knowledge and a strong learning ability to become a good interpreter. Interpretation, in the final analysis, belongs to a kind of service, which is concerned with various fields and the content of which is very likely to go beyond the interpreter’s ken. A wide range of knowledge will surely help the interpreter to understand the information and recreate it more correctly, thus improving the quality of his service. Moreover, techniques are also noticeable in the grasp of the keynote, the note-taking process and the eased utterance of the interpreter. Voice volume, pitch and speed of speech also prove to be important factors.
