Understanding ATS maintenance for Electrical Equipment in Data Centers

Message

“Often data center managers complain that their maintenance contracts do not meet up with their intended expectations.” – Frank Waterer publication. Data Centers are often managed by IT personnel and outsource maintenance to original manufacturers. When this happens and backup power becomes an issue, ownership and accountability are difficult to be determined. In 2010, five of ten major data center downtimes are attributed to the ATS systems unable to switch power between main, ups and generators.

This white paper will provide target audiences an understanding of key components involved in an ATS system, component and ATS system maintenance requirements, watch outs / myth of power disruption during maintenance, approach to selecting qualified vendors, and guidelines to specify conditions on maintenance contracts for complete ATS system verification.

This is currently proposed to be a joint publication with SE Power Engineering Services with ATS expert inputs from ASCO and Russelectric. Partnering with our ATS manufacturers will strengthen technical validity with target audiences.

The intent of the paper is to educate target audiences with the knowledge of ATS maintenance and the confidence to allow experienced service teams perform periodical verifications.
