Features and Benefits of Windows XP Professional

Microsoft released Windows XP Professional (hereafter referred to as XP Pro) in 2001 and targeted businesses and enterprise users. Microsoft promoted several features that would benefit the clients purchasing or looking to purchase this software. XP Pro offers security features like Remote Desktop/Remote Assistance, Internet Connection Firewall, File and Setting Transfer Wizard and Password and Authentication Settings. Application Compatibility Mode and Software Restriction Policies are also features of XP Pro that proves to be very beneficial to business user.

Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance are two features that can be very valuable to IT technicians. In XP Pro Remote Assistance is an easy way to setup, user initiated, remote control session that allows IT to be in another location while working on the user’s computer. The user sends a request to the recipient through an e-mail, which contains the connection information that launches the file for execution. The user can set certain parameters like password requirements or when the connection file will expire. Remote Assistance is a read only feature that allows chat between the user and recipient.

With Remote Desktop the recipient will have read and write capabilities. This feature can be very useful for mobile users who want to connect to their work desktop from home and have access to all files, application, and system settings they have at work. This feature works through the company network so users must have access to the network, usually a VPN.

Another feature of XP Pro that can prove beneficial to Riordan Manufacturing is the Software Restriction Policies. Because there are three different locations in the United States and one in China this can save time with the type of calls IT would have to answer.
