Gay Marriages
Gay marriage is one of the controversial issues for the United stated. The debate about same sex couples and their relationship is going back and forth throughout the whole country. There are many people who are opposed and feel it is ethically and morally wrong and others who feel that same sex marriages are acceptable. But in reality, granting legal marriage rights must extend to gays and lesbians, to ensure that all citizens enjoy full human rights.
I know that most people cannot accept the gay marriage in our common sense. People have right to do what they want to do or want to be. Since 2001 ten countries and various other jurisdictions have begun legally formalizing same-sex marriages, and the recognition of such marriages is a civil rights, political, social, moral, and religious is issue in many countries.
Many peoples' viewpoints on the issue of same-sex marriages have changed over the past few years. Public attitudes about gays and lesbians are growing steadily more tolerant. The fact is that people are in favor of nondiscrimination against gays and lesbians but they are opposed to same-sex marriages. A lot of local governments and private companies have instituted domestic partner benefit programs for the same-sex couples. This is a step in the right direction, which the government is putting into effect.
With this topic being connected to civil rights under President Obama’s comments, I believe that this right should be given to those who want to get married. For example, Elton
John, who is has been openly gay since the late 80’s, has been a musical and cultural icon internationally. Elton John who was an adamant supporter of civil partnership changed his mind to where he wants to get married to his life partner of 17 years. They are a married couple in the basic understanding of the term because they also have a child together.
