Katrina SmithI think that the most helpful recovery strategies for Amanda is talk to a psychiatrist and try to join a support group that focuses on alcoholics. Amanda is addicted to cigarettes and alcohol and she needs to interact with others who have over come their addictions and took control back of their lives. Amanda has been using pills and cigarettes for awhile now and quitting cold turkey would be extremely hard for her to do. I feel Amanda uses these substances to deal with stress and diminish the pain she feels. If Amanda went cold turkey and wasn’t successful she would most likely become more dependent on these substances as a way of coping with her failure and self disappointment. Another method for Amanda would be going to an inpatient facility where she would get the chance to get away from all of the negative people in her life, at the facility she would receive emotional support, counseling and detox methods.

Amanda will encounter many trials and tribulations as she tries to accomplish her goals of ending her substance abuse problems. The best support for her will need to be from true friends and family because without them quitting will be harder. She needs to learn how to cope with her parents and lean on them for support so she can end her addictions. She also needs to distance herself from those who are connected to her substance abuse problems. For example friends that smoke, drink alcohol or abuse pills.

Amanda will need to observe and practice alternative methods of stress relief in order to keep from relapses. She must gain the skills necessary to evaluate situations as she encounters them. I feel that if Amanda is successful in doing this then she will also be successful in ending her addictions. Amanda is 30 and it’s not too late for her to turn her life around, but if she wants a better one she must stay away from negativity and stay on the right path.
