Life is full of surprises. I was still a child, and like all children of my age, my life came down going to school, doing my homework, eating, playing, and briefly doing what children are supposed to do.  For me, violence was only for video games, cartoons, film scripts and a few television shows.  I watched several times on television how people were assaulted or murdered, but even though all this violence was not all bout fiction, but reality as well, did I have to worry about this scourge, when I knew that our nice town was well protected by valiant and faithful police officers? However, was this always the truth? Are they, police officers, always brave enough to fulfill their task? Occasionally, I had the opportunity to see, on TV local news, story of people who waited for police help in vain – still I though that these things only happened to others and would never happened to my family and I until one day we were assaulted in our house, and police let us down.

 

 

​This nightmare happened in 2006. My father and my mother were separated since I was 2 years old; as a result, I had to grow up with my grand mother and also with my aunt. However, during weekend, I had to spend time with my mother or my father. This Saturday, June 15th 2006, my mother was the one who could have me for the weekend.  Everything was nice, we just had dinner, and I was playing with my sister and brother in” our secret world", which is a small room, away from the main building of the house, where we had our video games, TV, and books. it was a round 9 pm, and I was beating my little brother in a racing game while soundly we heard a loud noise. We were kind of surprised, but not really worried -unfortunately, we should. Why; because we were about to be assaulted.
