The Bratz doll, envisioned by an Iranian immigrant, was supposed to be something which was unique, realistic and provided more ethnic dolls that were currently on the market. At first glance this looks noteworthy and the basis of a successful business model. Larian was named by Ernst & Young Overall and Consumer Products “Entrepreneur of the Year”. However, the result has become exploitative of young girls and sexualizes these small dolls, which ultimately sexualizes girls at a very young age. Isaac Larian, the CEO of MGA Entertainment, was born in 1954 in Iran. At the age of 17 he decided to immigrate to the United States in search for better education and opportunities. He worked his way through college at California State University and after graduating, he started an electronics importing company. Hard work was instilled in him from an early age when he worked for his father in the textile business. In 2000, he shifted from electronics to include the design, manufacturing and marketing of dolls. The new line he created was called the Bratz doll. It is characterized by what was supposed to be a more realistic body type as opposed to the Barbie doll. Bratz dolls are generally shorter, have almond shaped eyes and luscious lips. Their body shape is more curvy than the Barbie doll. Larian wanted an individualistic doll, and he dressed his Bratz dolls up with heavy eye and lip make-up along with tattoos and at times punk hair styles. The hair also is very long. The clothing line for Bratz dolls is very trendy, very revealing and skin tight. The latest Bratz dolls released all have either a very short skirt or short shorts with tall boots. The baby Bratz doll has also come under some criticism due to its diaper looking very similar to a thong.
