The Holy Bible gives a detailed account for the genealogy of Jesus. Chapter 1 of Matthew shows the recording of how Jesus was related to Abraham, the father of Isaac, Isaac was the father of Jacob, Jacob was the father of Judah, and so on. This 14 generational account from Abraham to David, Matthew 1:17 in the New International Version of the Holy Bible says, was also “fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon and fourteen from the exile to the Christ.” Historians agree that Jesus was more than likely born before the first year of the Common Era. However, the sixth-century Christian monks may have that particular detail off a bit.

The Old Testament in the Bible teaches that the Messiah was born in Bethlehem. His father was name Joseph and His mother was the virgin Mary. By all accounts Joseph did not believe Mary was pregnant and a virgin at the same time. However, Matthew 1:20 says an angel of the Lord came to Joseph in a dream and said his wife was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and that he should not divorce her. That same angel of the Lord told him to name the baby Jesus and he “will save his people from their sins.”

Everyone did not want to believe Jesus was the one and only Messiah. King Herod was furious and his people out to find Jesus and bring then back to him. Somehow his plan failed, Jesus, Mary and Joseph had left Bethlehem. Extremely upset, Herod ordered the killing of “all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under”. After King Herod died, the angel again appeared to Joseph in a dream letting him know Herod was dead, and the Lord wanted them to go to the land of Israel.

Years went by and Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan River. Matthew chapter 3 verse 16 says instantly after Jesus was baptized, “heaven was opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending”. A voice came down saying he was well pleased with...
