Do you believe that Nokia - one of the world leaders in the field of telecommunications technology today comes from a small factory of wood industry?

The history of Nokia goes back to 1865. That was when Fredrik Idestam built a wood pulp mill on the banks of the Tammerkoski rapids, in southern Finland. A few years later, he built a second mill by the Nokianvirta river – the place that gave Nokia its name. Idestam named his company Nokia Ab in 1871.

At the end of the 1910s, shortly after World War I, the Nokia Company was nearing bankruptcy. At that time, this insolvent company was acquired by the Finnish Rubber Works which continued to acquireThe Finnish Cable Works in 1922. Finally in 1967, these 3 companies officially merged. Merger paves the way for Nokia’s future as a global corporation.

In the early 60s, the Finnish Cable Works has established a research laboratory before it joined into Nokia Corporation. This sowed the seeds of Nokia’s future in telecommunications industry.

This is the digital switching platform (Nokia DX 200) built in early 70s and achieved many successes. This is also the base for Nokia company to develop their current mobile telephone network. Here are some first products of Nokia Cell Phone Company. And they stay up to date with their products and technology; they are always nonstop changing and improving their products. And ofcourse as the leading-company of telecommunication industry, it has to fight with many opponents.

On 11 February 2011, Nokia's CEO Stephen Elop, a former Microsoft employee, unveiled a new strategic alliance with Microsoft, and announced it would replace Symbian and MeeGo with Windows Phone 7. Nokia will, however, retain Symbian for use in mid-to-low-end devices. It will also invest into the Series 40 platform and release a single MeeGo product in 2011.
