Why is creativity an important asect of business and organisation? Explain the major issues facing the manager in encoraging creativity in an organisation and supporting creative people in order to improve performance. As well as references to the appropriate theory and literature your answer should also refer to some real examples from your own experience, or from the course materials or hypothetical case-studies.

Introduction

As the global playing field becomes increasingly level, workforce creativity and innovation will be the most important factors in establishing and maintaining a competitive advantage. Also owing to the increasing globalization, competition and technological dynamism the business landscape has become very dynamic. Managers are moving from the traditional human resource management practices that believed that employees were just tools to ensure that goals were achieved. Human resource management has today become an integral part of management with employees being termed as the most vital assets of an organization. Creativity building among employees has been found to play a great deal in creating and enhancing product differentiation, hence enabling a company increase its market share and profitability. The global and national markets have become very competitive with new companies being introduced almost on a daily basis. A business wishing to succeed as such has to differentiate itself as well as its products from that of its competitors and creativity is an avenue towards achievement of such differentiation. Apart from differentiation, there are other many reasons why creativity is vital to a business.
