This study will provide an incisive look at different methods and techniques of training and development procedures within a developing country like Nigeria which needs cost-effecting training models for their development.

The relevance of banks in the economy of any nation cannot be overemphasized. According to Babaita (2010) the Nigerian banking sector has been plagued with various problems stemming from improper banking practices to a lack of transparency. This has rendered the sector a failed one despite the various reforms over the years. Findings have revealed that most of the people trained in the industry do not stay with their organisations once they get the requisite skills; they leave and join another organization. This high turnover has negative impact on the perceived organizational performance. In the case of a developing country like Nigeria, stability of the workforce is critical to sustaining competitive advantage.

The proposed study will provide an insight into the attitudes and procedures that the Nigerian banks have adopted to enhance the level of employee performance in their organization and give an understanding if the implementation of certain training and development programs, in the Nigerian banks, are being implemented rightly and according to the challenges of the ever growing world.The research study is aimed to show the cause and effect of training and development on employee skills and performances in the Nigerian banking industry

Very little research has been done on HRM practices in Nigeria and this includes training and development .Differences s exist with respect to understanding human resource practices and how they are executed in Africa .Issues like globalization, economic growth of Nigeria and conducting international business has contributed to the need for more information on the management practices in Nigeria.
