• I will be choosing to do the first media problem dealing with which story to lead with the park situations or the death of a major celebrity. As the news directory, I would have to make the lead story about the closing of city parks for three days a week in order to save money instead of the death of a major celebrity because of the impact that the closing of the parks will have on my community. Even though the death of the celebrity would bring in more ratings, the closing of the city parks for three days tells my community that the city leaders do not know how to balance a budget and now must try to save money anyway that they can. This decision would put families in a bind because the city parks are where they go to visit with friends and the children can all play together. Once the parks are closed, then those families must then stay at home and the children can not play outside as much as they could before. A possible solution to the problem could be to figure out why in order to save money the city needs to close down the parks for three days and then possibly figure out if the community would be able to raise the enough money to keep them open.

• The role of the media is to provide the public with the information that they need to live their normal lives. Even though the death of a celebrity is a tragic event, the fact that the city parks will close for three days has more of an impact for the families within that community need to know about so that the families can figure out how they need to do keep the children active.
