Misunderstanding # 1:
Think of a misunderstanding you experienced when communicating with someone else at work, home, or school. Then fill in the blanks of the chart below.
Who was the sender? Myself
Who was the receiver? Co-worker
What was the message? My boss was telling me what he needed done by other co-workers while he was away for that entire day.
What channel was used to send the message? Face to face communication
What was the misunderstanding that occurred? When it came down to talking to one of the co-workers, that co-worker was making smart comments about what needed to be done and telling me that they been here long enough and that co-worker should know what needs to be done on a daily basis without anyone telling them what needs to be done for that particular day. Eventually that co-worker ended up getting fired.
How could the misunderstanding have been avoided? I believe this could have been avoided if we would have just sat down together and talked it over. The co-worker could have just sat there and listened to me and let me explain what the boss needed done from that particular employee and that co-worker would have still been working with the company today.
