I uphold the view of a cynic as a steady guard against making meager decisions about sexual activity. I believe this is a critical thinking tool that allows me to better investigate the situation from what ever side of the issue. What happens if I do? If I don’t? I am also the one that stands firm to my views with out letting others views sway my opinions. In this society, peer pressure is always a strong factor in making judgments about sex. It’s important to learn to not pay attention to peer pressure when making decisions that are as critical to my long term best interest as decisions that include sex. Sexually transmitted diseases are only one of the crucial aspects of these decisions. However sexually transmitted viruses are on of the questions I have to ask myself. Is it possible that this person is HIV positive? The choices are that critical. It is literally life threatening. This critical thinking process is appropriate for both men and women when they consider sexual decisions.
Many adolescents are very irresponsible about the choices about sex. They are prone to act on the spur of the moment without thinking what their erratic choices can lead to in the long run. They don’t apply critical thinking to this emotionally charged issue. In my opinion I would not have sex with someone who I have not been tested, even though we will be using protection and have known on a long term basis, not saying that it would always change the end outcome of things not happening, but I used a rational mind to make my choices. I want to know my partner at more than a shallow level. I want to be fully aware of our health status and emotional stability prior to taking and moving to the next level. In this way, I think that I can make a more informed verdict.
