a. Patents for inventions/innovations used to expand wireless phones
b. Trademark and copyrights of images, symbols, emblems, music, and slogans of the wireless providers
c. Licensing – Brand store (like Best Buy) that provide wireless devices directly to consumers
d. Copyrights – A copyright protects the expression of ideas. The company or person that holds copyrights of a product has control over reproduction, distribution, and public displays.
e. Trade secrets: Protect inventor from unauthorized transfer of advantageous formulas, devices, and information.
f. High-tech infringement; Intellectual property protection for semiconductor chip. Chip piracy, which includes infringing the design of another’s chip.
2) what managers in the industry might do to protect an organization’s property rights
a. Verify if an invention is eligible for a patent; was it in use by the public already, is it novel, useful, non-obvious
b. Knowing the type and length of the patents. They would have to know when patents expire.
c. Be aware of dilution
d. Protecting Customer’s proprietary information such as Address, Phone number, credit card / bank info, and information on calls
e. Parent Infringement – define as anyone who sells or uses a patented product or process without the consent or authorization of the patent holder. Once the product has a patent managers and the company have to be aware of any products that are similar and verify if the patent has been used.
f. Enforce copyrights infringement research and notify legal team of copyrights infringements. Civil suits can be brought for infringement and resulting damages to a business owner, there are federal criminal penalties as well.
