Using Information technology for a Competitive Advantage

This is an action plan intended to create a competitive advantage by employing the benefits from information technology. An information system will provide this organization with the tools needed to ensure profitability, increase employee productivity, reduce expenses, and most important create an environment conducive for a highly satisfied customer. Specifically, an information system will facilitate the managing and strategic planning of this organization. The primary objective is to enhance the use of data by creating information, which can be turned into knowledge. This knowledge will give the organization a competitive advantage enabling the managing unit to make better informed decisions that affect the business such as shrink management, which affects the business equation (profit= revenue+or-expenses) adversely. These systems have been identified: human resources system, accounting system, marketing system, transaction system, customer orientation system, and a strategic information system.

A human resources system is needed to gather information on all employees. Federal and state laws require certain information be maintained on all employees such as e-verify, age requirements, ethnic background, etc. Safety compliance and company orientation are part of any organization. A computer based training program, a function of an human resources system can be used to train employees. Expiration of a liquor license is also maintained by the system. Status of an employee either current or separated is also maintained by this system.
