José Protasio Alonso Realonda Mercado Rizal is an important person in the history of the Philippines and an icon that we can find in every history books in our country. In 1998 , there was a movie that tells the life story of Jose Rizal, the national hero of the Philippines. It covers his life from his childhood to his execution at the hands of the Spanish forces occupying the Philippines in the late 19th century. We are also thrown into the world of Rizal's novels filmed in black and white, so we get a glimpse of how he viewed Filipino society under the Spanish heal. These Filipino movie is being inspired by Jose Rizal. Jose Rizal is a 1998 award-winning Filipino film biopic directed by Marilou Diaz Abaya. It was GMA Films' entry to the 1998 Metro Manila Film Festival. The movie depicts the life of José Rizal, who was played by Cesar Montano. With impeccable production values and a truly great performance by being the lead actor. Other cast are Gloria Diaz as Teodora Alonzo, Pen Medina as Paciano Rizal, Gardo Versoza as Andres Bonifacio, Joel Torre as Crisostomo Ibarra/Simoun, Monique Wilson as Maria Clara, Chin Chin Gutierrez as Josephine Bracken, Mickey ferriols as Leonor Rivera and Jaime Fabregas as Luis Taviel. This film is written by Ricardo Lee, Jun Lana and Peter Ong Lim. It was released in June 12, 1998 as a part of Centennial celebrations and in December 25, 1998 for the Metro Manila Film Festival.
