SEED GERMINATION – LAB REPORT GUIDELINES
Title: Needs to be appropriate
Problem/Observation: State this in the form of a question. You should have two observations.
Hypothesis: State both hypotheses in and “If…then” format. Be sure your independent and dependent variable are properly placed in your hypotheses.
Background Information: Using a minimum of a least three resources (your text, encyclopedia, computer, etc.), provide a discussion of information about seeds, seed germination, seed dormancy, and some general information about the growth requirements and optimum environment for each seed type used in your lab. Make sure you have provided a works cited list at he end of your lab report (after your conclusion section) with the appropriate format for writing a bibliography. Must be at least two double-spaced pages.
Materials: Make this in the form of a list. Include all seed types and all equipment.
Methods/Procedures: List all the steps of your procedure. If someone is not able to follow your report and repeat your experiment, then you need to re-work your procedure.
Data: 2 tables and 2 bar graphs
Create one table with your data for each day.
• Create one table with the class data (just number totals).
• Create one bar graph plotting your results for the fastest germination versus the class results.
• Use day #1 results ONLY for the fastest germination. Plot the number of seeds germinating on the y-axis and be sure to label all axes of your graphs.
• Create one bar graph plotting your results for the highest percentage of germination versus the class results. Use separate shades/colors for class and individual data.
• Percentage germinated can be calculated using the following formula:
# of seeds germinated
-------------------------- X 100 = Percent germinated
Total number of seeds
• Write 1 to 2 sentences for each of the graphs explaining what happened on the graph...
