1. What are the different forms of social media that exist today? Provide examples of different social media and their primary purposes.

There are many forms of social media available today. To name a few, Facebook and MySpace come to mind. These two famous media examples are used my millions daily to communicate, share personal and business information and to stay in touch with friends, family and business associates. These are only two but they are probably used more than any others. Facebook is the fastest growing social media outlet and many businesses also use this to promote products and collects comments and praise from readers worldwide. There are others like DIGG and MetaCafe that also share the same kinds of information but are more direct and specified. Blogs are also a growing form of social media and are seen virtually everywhere on the internet promoting products and discussing almost every subject one can think of. Another huge member of the social media arena is YouTube. YouTube is a site showing videos of almost any product or subject, sharing videos worldwide to an audience that logs in almost every single day. YouTube shares not only personal videos but has many business applications as well.

2. What are the greatest benefits of social media for individuals and society?

Some of the greatest benefits of social media are seen in marketing business and commerce in a nationwide even worldwide marketplace. Businesses have been able to market products and services without the expense of advertising in local and national markets. People can see links to referrals, customer comments and word of mouth advertising which is some of the best marketing ever. For individuals, it allows communication between friends and family sharing information, photos and even video. Many friends are made each day and many...
