Kudler Fine Foods Data Analysis Table

When Kathy Kudler established Kudler Fine Foods in La Jolla in 1998, the information needed was less than today with three locations and a possible fourth location to be opening soon. The primary necessity is an updating of the inventory system. If inventory information is outdated, incomplete or incorrect, it can cost Kathy a great deal of time and money. Kathy’s use of pivot tables and relationship diagrams will allow her to have the tools to help her in her decision-making process and improve her accounting information.

The inventory tables enable the user to see inventory items on hand, whether or not perishable items that may be disposed of, and whether items need to be reordered. Based upon the history, the user can determine when an item will need to be ordered based upon the time of year. Data table analysis is imperative to enable the users to perform their job quickly and accurately. The table for inventory is designed to organize the data by department, general ledger codes, and totals for each item in each location. Each location has a unique location code, a common department and item code used in all of the locations. For example, La Jolla store code is 12, Del Mar is 13, and Encinitas is 14, the bakery code for all locations is 10, and the last two digits of the codes represent the inventory item for all locations (Apollo Group, Inc, 2003). Proper analysis of the data table will give the user the ability to ensure product is recorded in the correct location, department, and item. Currently, it is difficult to determine the quantity in each category.

The entity relationship (E-R) diagrams are used to illustrate the hierarchy of how data is to be reviewed. The diagrams represent the relationship between the business entities. (See Exhibit A). Four symbols are used for the E-R Diagrams (Bagranoff, Simkin, Strand, 2008):
