Computer Crime
Computer crime is increasing every day. The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) has reported a 22 % increase internet crime cost in 2009 compared to 2008. They were over 330,000 complaints, and only 146,633 of these were forwarded to law enforcement. Internet losses totaled nearly $560 million in 2009. Even though the Internet Crimes are Global, the Americans accounts for 65% of the crimes (Scheid, 2010).
Due to most Internet crime being connected with malware and web attacks (9/10), more people are gathering information and investigating how to prevent internet crimes from happening in the future. People need to be aware of the phishing scams and know what they look like; they even need to think like a hacker (Scheid, 2010).
The most common Internet Crime is Crime wire (Identity Theft), the use of malware to steal the identity of unsuspected internet users. Example is gaining access to bank account information and making withdrawals (Prevent Identity Theft, 2011).
Another type of Internet Crime is engine phishing scams; phishers create web pages that offer fake products that attract people, such as high interest rates on CDs. Once the individual transfers money into the account then they find that the bank is fraudulent (Prevent Identity Theft, 2011).
Sniffer is a software program that your nosy neighbor can copy information off your computer when traveling through a network such as WI-FI. It can read, monitor, and capture information including passwords, personal information, and credit card numbers (Prevent Identity Theft, 2011).
They are many cybercrimes in the systems today Malware is active throughout the globe, according to the charts 42% of malware has been identified in the United States, and 30% of it was China (Laudon & Laudon, 2010).
