This paper will explain the process and the procedures of quality management of Sony and Dell. Dell is a US based company versus Sony which is based out of Japan. The company Dell quality management comes from functions involving the determination of a valuable policy and its execution through means such as quality planning and quality assurance (Business Dictionary, 2010). Dell’s products are somewhat similar to what Sony carries such as computers. The Dell Company was started in 1983 by pre-formatting hard disk for upgrading the compatibles of IBM compatible PCs (Dell, 2009). Michael Dell saw what was happening with the formatting so he decided to create his own brand.

Dell’s brand quality control starts from manufacturing design and early trying stages through which design for dependability is the main concern. Through early examination of failure mode, product design is based on typical consumer profile and operation obligation, which is the basis of high value. Also a reliability test is essential to ensuring the best quality.

In addition, Dell puts great significance on suppliers' quality management, as Dell always regards the value of the components as crucial factors for product quality. Dell established a set of scientific and complete management process, which ensures final product quality through rigid selection and process control of industry-leading suppliers. Quality management during manufacturing process is the strongest assurance of Dell products' quality. Engineering pilot and employee training are conducted before any new product launch. Through Statistic Process Control Quality Analysis, Dell is able to detect and improve incoming material and process issues, which guarantee the best manufacturing quality (Dell, 2005).
