I ) INTRODUCTION :

1. INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY :

ICT is the acronym for INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY. ICT focuses intensely on the role of communications that holds all the wireless technologies and telecommunication activities.

2. BIOMETRICS :

Authorization, Authentication and other security related issues are viewed as the major concerns almost among all the organisations. Various methodologies were developed since past to overcome this problem. And also automated systems are being caught up as the latest technologies and are of great interest to the public.

Biometrics is the rapidly advancing technology that is used to deal with the security systems in the organisations as well as provides many automated systems. It majorly comprises of methods for identifying and recognosing people based on their individual traits, behavioural aspects, physiology, genes, DNA etc that are unique to each and every individual. Day by day as the security breaches the concerns regarding security are increasing, hence the demand towards Biometrics is also increasing. Few reasons to use biometrics are its fast, easy, potent, reliable which makes biometrics a good source to identify an individual.

Inspite of its multiple uses, its primary goal is to concentrate on and to replace the primitive security access control systems.

2.1 Primarily biometrics is divided in to two types :

2.1.1 Physical biometrics : It is basically used either for verification, authorization, authentication or identification. To do either of the activities it uses the physical or visible characteristics of a person.
