Arc of Steuben

The Arc of Steuben is a nonprofit organization that serves adults and children who have developmental and other disabilities. The organization focuses it’s time and energy on the people it serves and is known for being family-friendly and community oriented.

There are 5 different divisions within the Arc of Steuben; Residential, Vocational, Supported Employment, Medicaid Service Coordination and Community Supports. We are going to focus on the Community Supports Division. The Community Supports Division provides living skills to people that are living in the community, either on their own or with their families. These skills will assist them to continue living on their own and be a contributing member of the community. The services are provided in the customer’s home or within their own community.

The Arc of Steuben is a chapter of NYSARC, Inc. which is the largest nonprofit organization in the state of New York and has been in operation for over fifty years. We are located in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of New York State. The Arc of Steuben covers an area that is 1,400 square miles. All services are available to Steuben County residents, and Crisis Support services are provided in seven counties.

There are approximately 40 staff members that provide the actual service to approximately 400 (duplicated) people. The reason this number is duplicated is because some people receive more than one type of service.

BUISNESS OPPORTUNITY

The problem that the Community Supports Division is experiencing is ensuring that all of the people who are currently enrolled in each program receive the service that they require. These services must be provided with quality assurance in order for the division to stay financially viable. If a customer does not receive the service, this is putting the organization into a financial bind.
