Influences on the Constitution

In history we have several documents and people who have influenced our county on how it was made and how our government was formed. The five documents that have had an influence on our history were the Magna Carta, Mayflower Compact, Articles of Confederation, Northwest Ordinance, and the Declaration of Independence. Each has an influence on how our constitution was made. We must give credit to those people who have influenced our Constitution they are: Thomas Hobbs, John Locke, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, Patrick Henry, and Thomas Jefferson. Each played an important part of how our history was laid out for us.

The Magna Carta was a document that King John of England was forced to sign that reduced the power he held and gave more power to parliament. The influence it had on our Constitution was that it is considered the founding document of England and American liberties.

The Mayflower Compact was a written document composed by the new settlers arriving at New Plymouth. It was drawn up with fair and equal laws, for the general good of the settlement. The influence the Mayflower Compact had on our Constitution was significant because it became the backbone of our own Constitution.

The Articles of Confederation was the first Constitution of the United States, passed by the same Continental Congress that resulted in passing the Declaration of Independence. It was being created during the Revolutionary War. In these articles each state declares it freedom and independence. The Articles of Confederation was adopted in November 15, 1777 but became operative on March 1, 1781.

The Northwest Ordinance was a government charted by the Northwest Territory. It provided a way to let new states from the territory join the union. There were three principal provisions in the document. First Principal was that there...
