Nutrition is important in living a healthy lifestyle. Nutrition is the science that deals with all the various factors of which food is composed and the way in which proper nourishment is brought about (Nutrition Online). Proper nutrition is only possible when the diet taken is balanced and the food consumed contains all the basic nutrients. Nutrition is important to living a healthy lifestyle. Consuming the recommended amount of servings from each food group is a crucial need to our bodies. Keeping a healthy daily diet can sound tough, but with the proper education it can be managed. For instance knowing how to range calorie intake for various levels of activity, knowing the differences between fats and acids, being aware of how cholesterol affects you, and finally developing a general understanding of where you can find vitamins and supplemental intakes. I will be monitoring my daily intake for one day and dissecting how healthy my daily intake is.

The recommended food energy and total calories for a person my age and weight is 2564 calories. In a one day food intake, I consumed 1654 calories. I know that my dietary intake needs some improvement. Sometimes, I have a lack of energy which is due to my improper eating habits. My nutrient intake was less than the recommended range. My total fat intake was 58g and the recommended amount was 57-100g. But, what stood out the most was my nutrient intake of sodium, which was over 500 above the recommended range.

The food pyramid analysis showed that I did not consume the recommended number of servings from each food group. My grains, meats and beans were at 100 percent. Whereas my fruit was 50 percent, milk was about 20 percent, and vegetables intake was zero for the day. Without this analysis, I would not have known that I was not consuming the recommended number of servings from each food group.
