Control Limits
Control limits are established to provide information and detect if a specific activity is meeting its performance requirements normally. Statistical process control (SPC) are created
to test if the actions previously planned in a chart to complete an activity are in control and performed as desired. The control chart can detect what are the causes of a variation. A process
is competent when its limits of acceptability are placed inside control charts. When the parts are out of those pre selected limits called upper and lower control limits, the process is defective.
The total operating time needed to do the morning activities and to be on time at work is about 65 minutes. It is noticed that the control chart detects some variations because of
the effect of different causes. After that analysis it is considered that the process could be improved if more minutes are added. On this case there will be an addition of 15 minutes,
therefore the control limit established will have an operating time of 75 minutes. Besides that, it is important to take into consideration that if there is no personal collaboration to
perform the activity as planned some delays will be generated and the possibility of lose control of the process in reference of time may occur. Below it is presented the control chart that
shows the average time needed to complete the morning activities and be on time at work. The chart is based on the data collected on previous weeks. See appendix B
Variations that Affect the Process
Some factors can affect the process, seasonal factors is one of the most relevant. It is noticed that when there is a sunny day the time to drive to work is no more than 25 minutes. On
the other hand, the average time changes when there is a rainy day, it can be even10 minutes more because people drives more slowly, therefore, traffic is heavier. This situation was present
during week two and week three. Another existing...
