1. Using the model for goal setting, evaluate Allstate’s goal setting process to determine whether or not Allstate has an effective goal-setting program.

In my opinion, Allstate does not have an effective goal-setting program in place. By viewing the goal-setting model, Allstate it appears to be on the correct track to ensure the program is effective but, there is room for improvement to ensure it is effective. Starting with “challenge”, Allstate goal-setting program does not indicate any challenging goals that would make employees work harder or perform better. The first thing Allstate should do is make clear and challenging goals for the employees to give them something harder to work for and motivate them to want to do better at their job. Sometimes when employees have clear concise goals to look forward to working towards, they come to work with a positive attitude and ready to work hard because they know they have a goal to meet. When employees do not have goals set for the employees, the employees will come in and do their job and their job only without any motivation or desire to exceed. Mediators are showing in their goal-setting program because they have rewards for the employees and directions for development for the employees. Allstate advises the employees of their current employment status and show them the career path they need to follow to develop for advancement within the company. It also gives them feedback on their performance to help them with future advancement. Allstate also has benefits in place that are rewarding to the employees that allow them merit increases and they have onsite child care facilities for their employees. However, I think Allstate should concentrate harder on establishing goals to ensure the goal-setting program is effective.
