This essay is about Mr. Keating from the movie "Dead Poets Society". All teachers have an important influence on their students. I think a good teacher is able to teach students and make them interested in whatever he is teaching. Because of that, Mr. Keating, to me, is not only a good teacher, but an excellent teacher. What he teaches will be very beneficial to his students when they grow older.

In the film, he is a new teacher at a traditional boarding school. His influence over his students is central to the movie. The influence is evident in his inspiring, creative teaching and his unconventional ideas which he uses to encourage his students to think differently about life. The most impressed me is that in their first class, Mr. Keating tells the students to tear a page from their textbooks, which shows how he is a free thinker and he tries to teach his students to be. He also teaches the students to explore and experiment. It is a good way of discovering what you want to do in life and is something every person needs to learn.

With his charismatic personality and often unconventional ideas, Keating inspires his group of senior boys to think independently, question adult authority and to seize the day. What’s more, differs from other teachers who are strict, conventional and practical in the school, he takes interest in his students’ life and gradually becomes a part of them. As a result, Keating’s students idolize him – they make him their “Captain”.
