Riordan Manufacturing
Introduction:
Riodan manufacturing struggles in several ways. Data transfer/compiling is one of the areas that Riodan manufacturing has to look at. Each of the different facilities has different systems and software than each of the others. The Georgia facility is using a vendor developed and purchased software application and the attendant source code for their finance and accounting. The vendor developed software that was purchased and put in place in Michigan no longer has an active vendor. All three locations are running different operating systems, source code, workstations, and servers. Riodan manufacturing also has a two year plan for reaching a $50 million dollar revenue mark, and the suggestion for a move to China. To create smoother data transfer and storage and reach Riodan manufacturing's goals, a restructure at all locations will be needed. The human resources and legal departments have a good deal of inconsistencies and outdated methods. This will need to be addressed to gain better operations and more secure file storage that can be accessed by the personnel with the need to access those files.
Hardware:
The first thing we will examine is the hardware and operating systems that Riodan manufacturing is using at each facility. The Michigan location is operating on a pair of DEC Alpha’s, using the VMS operating system The facility is utilizing VAX4000 work stations that are programmed in C (Riordan). The Georgia business system is run on a pair of AS400’s using UNIX operating systems, Window’s PC’s as workstations and is programmed in RPG400. Finally we have the San Jose business system which has the proper business license for a full Window’s based system, but the licensing does not include any application source code. This is one of the issues that will need to be...
