Explain whether Jake’s actions are in or out of “his scope of employment.” The auto dealership business had increased due to the free oil change promotion. This increase in business caused Jake to work overtime when he had just accepted an exempt management position. Hence, he was not entitled to overtime. The service line was building up because Jake was providing the customers with more service than his boss had expected. Jake’s point of view was that he should do a complete inspection of the cars that were benefiting from the free oil change.
