Stress

According to the Stress Management Society, stress is what happens with the demands made on a person exceed the person’s ability to cope. The word stress means, “A state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances” (“Stress,” n.d.).

Stress can be caused by different factors. One of the most common forms of stress is related to work stress. The way people feel pressured by their work demand, how much control the person has over work and relationships with coworkers and customers create an atmosphere of stress. In a world that advances in a market of economy and technology, the demand on people to improve time management, production, and quality of work rises (Business Insights Limited, 2008).

Today’s consumers face conflicting demands on their time which causes a struggle to comply with duties at home or work. The feeling of not having enough hours in the day, working longer hours at work and taking less holidays or vacations produce stress. At the same time the levels of stress rise compared with those of hart related issues as threatening illness (Business Insights Limited, 2008).

There are different solutions to avoid stress at work. By prioritizing the duties and identifying the ones that take time and effort away, people can reduce the amount of stress and better the performance and time management at work. Most employers have guidelines, videos or provide training regarding time management. Moreover, there are trainings to understand the personalities and lifestyles of co-workers and customers which can help to deal with stress. This special training gives employees an opportunity to identify their behavior and attitude during work (Business Insights Limited, 2008).
