The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) is a nonprofit privately funded agency to provide assistance to wounded veterans and their families. This project started with minimal start up and the will to help the wounded that were returning from Afghanistan and Iraq. The beginning of this project offered simple comforts to wounded military but has turned into something much bigger. WWP now offers several programs to assist wounded military with rehabilitation and transitioning into a more normal way of life. They also provide support to the families caring for an injured loved one (WWP, 2011).

The Wounded Warrior Project created a solution to a problem that was very visible after the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan began. The Veteran Administration was overwhelmed and many of the injured and their families were getting lost in the shuffle. WWP is one of the main organizations that stepped in to help with this problem. They have given support and been a strong advocate for new legislation in support of these men and women (WWP, 2011).

WWP Mission: “To honor and empower wounded warriors”(WWP, 2011).

WWP Goal: “To provide a voice for wounded warriors and their families” (WWP, 2011).

Wounded Warrior Project is funded through donations accepted on their website. They also have several fundraising events around the country to help bring money in to support the project. This organization keeps the administrative and fundraising cost to a minimum so the majority of donations go directly to the wounded military returning from war (WWP, 2011).
