Introduction

Previously Chesapeake Energy discussed expanding operations to the country of Kava. Chesapeake Energy considers obstacles such as relocating personnel, development of personnel in Kava, and how to handle day to day operations along with the potential for natural disasters. This paper will serve to explain how through the use of concensus and collective-participative decision making styles, Chesapeake Energy will evaluate the obstacles and form solutions for not only expanding operations to Kava, but also maintaining successful daily operations of Chesapeake Energy similar to the United States operations.

Collective-Participative Decision Making

Collective-participative decision making will allow Chesapeake Energy to include all employees that may be affected in the Kava operation expansion. Collective-participative involves employees other than just the manager responsible for the decision. The manager will take the opportinity to encourage other ideas, and consider other viewpoints and information. The manager will maintain responsibility for the decision, however through this decision making style, employees will be aware of the decisions being made prior to the decisiom being implemented, leaving no surprises for the employees.

One of the largest obstacles Chesapeake Energy faces is determining how many employees are required to relocate to Kava to begin operations. Through the collective-participative decision making style, Chesapeake Energy is initially allowing managers that are willing to relocate to bid on open positions within Kava. Once a management team has been established, it will be their responsibility to develop and coordinate the appropriate crews to develop their departments.
