Copperfield’s Books was established in 1981 by Barney Browne and Paul Jaffe in Sebastopol, California. This independent chain has grown to six stores and currently employs 120 people. The store layouts are simple and casual, targeting upscale, liberal minded customers. Product offerings vary considerably throughout each store but are similar to ensure chain continuity and branding.

The company has a strong staff of book experts who have enough expertise to act as book buyers to acquire antiquarian books and first editions
