“Save water, our diminishing commodity”
About three-quarters of the Earth’s surface is covered with water. Water is one of the most crucial things on earth because it sustains life and is used everyday. We use water for drinking, bathing, cleaning and cooking. Besides that, we need water to maintain our health. So, we must ensure continuity of water supplies.
Our earth is indeed covered by a lot of water, unfortunately, the water can hardly be used due to the high level of mineral content in it, especially salt. Taken directly, seawater is almost totally useless; it can neither be used for agriculture nor for home consumption. Sea water can be used for mineral extraction but it is usually an expensive affair to process it. The water that we use daily and often take for granted comes from different sources. For a tropical country like ours where rainfall is abundant, water can be trapped from springs and rivers after a downpour.
We human beings got a wrong opinion that is, believed that water will never be used up due to its rich resources such as rain and so on. In fact, such belief is unfortunately wrong and possible dangerous. In some areas of the world, people are worrying about the supply of water. People live in those areas will sometimes have no water to use, they have no way but to reuse the dirty water. Besides that, with the rapid growth of population and industry, the amount of water in use is also growing rapidly. Hence, pollution occurs too, a very serious problem. The water from rivers can no longer be drinkable which can even be fatal because of a lot of pollutants poured into the rivers.
Wasting water, are we doing the right thing? The answer is NO, the shortage of water will remain at high level if we are only aware of it but take no actions.
