enslaves an individual to desires and passions. This quotation is an accurate representation of Buddha’s idea because ignorance will cause suffering whether it is the individual that is being ignorant or the people around that person that is being ignorant. This idea has been proven to be true many times since its conception. When ignorant people see someone who is old, sick, or dead, they are disgusted and horrified, even though they too will be old, sick, or dead some day.

A quotation that best represents the ideas of Lao Tzu is “To know that you do not know is the best.” The quote is significant because many of the wisest people in the world realize that the most important thing is to know that we cannot know everything because knowing everything means that you are above all others. Many people have spent their lives learning everything that they can because that will make them closer to God or a supreme being. One of his works the Daodejing is the most translated work next to the Bible because of what it has to say in regards to the way that people should live their lives.
