Brief introduction of Apple in India

“Hold an iPhone, and you’ll feel excited!” an Indian TV host, Rajiv Makhni, said. He further explained that there’s actually a large customer base for the iPhone in India.

India is the second biggest market in the world. Since it seemed to have big sales potential in India, Apple decided to contract with two of the biggest GSM companies in India, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone. The iPhone was formally introduced into India in September, 2008.

However, the story did not go well. Several people said that the iPhone had only managed to sell around 11,000 units in the two months since it was launched, and Apple’s spokesperson was not willing to elaborate on the reasons why. The iPhone is quite successful in most countries. Why has its launch in India been dubbed the biggest failure of a top brand from a well-known company? Now, it’s time to find out the reasons and look at what actually went wrong with the iPhone in India.
