Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence is a fantastic concept that over time and through trials and tribulations has become a staple in many aspects of our daily activities and has the potential to accomplish so much more. It is used throughout the military, companies across the globe, as well as our everyday lives, though most people do not realize it. The potential of artificial intelligence is immense and we have only begun to tap into it as a resource.

In order to begin to understand artificial intelligence we must first understand intelligence. According to Dictionary.com, intelligence is the “capacity for learning, reasoning, understanding, and similar forms of mental activity; aptitude in grasping truths, relationships, facts, meanings, etc” (Dictionary.com, n.d.). This opens up a wide range of opportunities.

Without a doubt humans have shown a wide variety of intelligence. Children will surprise their parents on a daily basis on the amount of knowledge and understanding and the ability to learn they retain. It seems that they are taught far more advanced applications in school than were taught a mere 20 years ago. Then you have intelligence on the other end of the spectrum. Take Ken Jennings for example. A computer scientist by trade, Ken Jennings is a 74 time champion on the game show Jeopardy!, and winner of the United States version of the show Grand Slam. His extraordinary intelligence has culminated winnings of $3,172,700 on his run of game shows to include Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader and as a member of the mob on 1 vs. 100. When you hear about stories like these you have no hesitations when saying they are intelligent individuals.

What about if the intelligence is not human? There are various types of animals that are considered very intelligent. According to Animal Planet, the chimpanzee is at the top of the list.
