The Walt Disney Company is the world's largest media conglomerate with assets encompassing movies, television, publishing, and theme parks. It was founded on October 16, 1923, by two brothers Walt Disney and Roy Disney as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio; the company was reincorporated as Walt Disney Productions, Ltd. in 1929, and became publicity-traded as Walt Disney Productions in 1938.

George Bodenheimer, co-chair of Disney Media Networks President, ESPN, Inc. and ABC Sports states, “The Walt Disney Company is a great place to work because the Company is filled with people who enjoy creating great entertainment" (The Walt Disney Company- Who We Are, 2011).

As defined on the company’s website: “The mission of The Walt Disney Company is to be one of the world's leading producers and providers of entertainment and information. Using our portfolio of brands to differentiate our content, services and consumer products, we seek to develop the most creative, innovative and profitable entertainment experiences and related products in the world” (The Walt Disney Company- Who We Are, 2011).

“At The Walt Disney Company, we believe that being a good corporate citizen is not just the right thing to do; it also benefits our guests, our employees and our businesses. It makes the Company a desirable place to work, reinforces the attractiveness of our brands and products and strengthens our bonds with consumers and neighbors in communities the world over” (The Walt Disney Company – Corporate Citizenship, 2011).  The mission implies that all who work in the company must seek excellence and take pride in achieving top-notch quality of work that will set Disney apart from other entertainment companies. It is stressed that creativity, innovation, and service are paramount in the success of the company.
