Modern Challenges in Immigration Week 3

The immigration process is a complicated one. I believe all citizens of other countries should be treated equally in the immigration process. The immigration policy should not favor any particular immigrants. Each immigrant should pay the same fees and go through the same processes as every other immigrant. The reason behind my opinion is so that the government can better ensure that each immigrant will be able to self sustain and not be a further burden on the economy.

Citizenship preference should go to the most talented and those with the most need first, however I do not feel that athletes should be considered as a group of talent. Scientists, researchers, and people, who will open businesses and corporations, as long as those businesses and corporations will be hiring U.S. citizens, are some of the people who should receive preferential citizenship. Scientists and researchers should only receive preferential citizenship if their area of expertise is an area of need in the United States. Those people can bring something beneficial to the United States and possibly be able to assist in improving the economy or society. Others who are in severe need, due to war in their own country or other significant reasons, who would be harmed if they returned to their home country, should be given preference for citizenship as an act of humanity.

I do not feel that citizens of any particular country should receive priority for citizenship or immigration unless they fall into one of the talent or extreme neediness categories. These cases should be examined on a case-by-case basis and may need considered priority, depending on the circumstances in their home country at the time of application or changes during the application process.
