My grandfather is 76, and he has seen a lot in his lifetime. For this reason I have chose to interview him. At the age of 76 he body is starting to break down. He was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer and is now under going a daily radiation treatment. Every Monday through Friday he wakes up at 5am, gets dressed, and heads out the door to a local cancer treatment center to receive a large dose of radiation. In all of his years and experiences he has never felt as old and as weak as he does with this disease. As crazy as it may sound, the good news is something else will probably cause his death before prostate cancer will. Knowing this fact makes him able to face the day.

Going into the interview I knew a lot of the background information. His highest degree of education is a high school diploma; he is currently retired from the Pennsylvania elevator union, a father to 7 children, a grandfather to 17 grandchildren, and a great grandfather to 3 with one on the way. In his retirement he has picked up golf and woodworking, as well as, becoming a large collector of electronics. Sitting down with him allowed me to learn more about this man I care so much about.

He would describe himself as a family man. I think he defines his life based off of the family he has and he is very proud of it. He grew up in Philadelphia with one sister, his mother stayed at home while his father worked. My great grandfather worked well over 40 hours a week and made a very successful living. Neither of his parents were particularly active, mostly just spectators of sports. My grandfather looked up to his father while growing up; he said it was because his father gave him good direction in life. He taught him the importance of hard work. My grandfather worked very hard as a union man in the elevator business, a trait he has most certainly passed down to his children.
