Organizational Behavior and Communication Paper

“Values create a sense of purpose beyond making money, they guide and inspire people throughout the organization and they remain relatively fixed for long periods of time. Core values, are not situational, relative, or provisional. They are not suited to a given organization at a given time. Rather, they are enduring and absolute in nature. In the following paragraphs I will briefly describe the culture of Starbucks, note whether the organization’s espoused values align with its enacted values. I will also describe the role communication plays in perception and organizational culture, and finally I will identify the role of conflict in group communication.

To differentiate their product and service from the rest of the competitors Starbucks offers a very holistic and meaningful experience. Starbucks is focused on “inspiring the human spirit” and committed to a role of environmental leadership in all facets of their business. It's created purchasing guidelines for labor and environmental standards. It supports national literacy programs and community projects in places where it owns stores.

The company’s exemplary practices are not achieved only by their strong culture, mission statement, and values. But, by the people who work for the company and the communication they have among them. Corporate employees are also encouraged to work in stores just to stay in touch with the frontline of the business (Weber, 02/2). Starbucks good communication flow and organizational culture is what makes this company happy place.

Group conflict is a constant in every company, but as a constant Starbucks always has a way of dealing with this kind of problem. To avoid group conflict among its employees, Starbucks is always encouraging its employees to share their feelings.
